Governor McCrory Announces Federal Aid Approved for Onslow County Residents

Raleigh
Oct 19, 2016

Governor Pat McCrory this evening received a federal disaster declaration to help individuals in Onslow County recover from the massive flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew.

“This announcement marks another step forward in providing assistance to hardworking families and businesses in Onslow County," said Governor McCrory."While it will likely take months to fully recover, these funds will help those who are suffering to begin to rebuild their lives."

Homeowners and renters in Onslow County can now apply for federal assistance to repair or rebuild damaged homes. With the addition of Onslow, 28 counties are now approved for federal funding to help individuals recover from the storm; those counties are also eligible for funds to augment the costs of responding to the storm or removing storm debris. At this point, another nine counties are eligible only for federal funds to subsidize the costs of storm response and debris removal.

In addition, all 100 counties of the state will be eligible for funding to help mitigate future storm damage.

Local and state emergency management officials are still conducting preliminary damage assessments in other storm-impacted counties in order to gather the necessary documentation to apply for additional federal assistance to help families and communities recover from the storm.
