County Resource Guide

The N.C. Department of Public Safety County Resource Guide was developed by the NCDPS Office of Research and Planning/Office of Transition Services to provide released offenders, probation/parole officers, prison case managers and social workers and others with a searchable database of community resources in each of North Carolina's 100 counties.

The database contains contact information for many core local, state, and federal agencies, as well as various faith-based and community-based service organizations that provide assistance to released offenders and/or offenders under correctional supervision to support a successful transition into their community.

The County Resource Guide will be updated as current information is received.  If you are a service provider who would like to update or submit information to the database, please click here to download a data entry/update form you can complete and submit to:

The service providers listed in the County Resource Guide are categorized into 13 “Life Areas”:  Behavior, Education, Employability, Family, Financial, Housing, Legal, Life Skills, Mental Health, Physical/Medical, Sex Offender Treatment Services, Sobriety, and Transportation.  “Life Areas” and their subsequent “Service Types” are critical to an individual's successful reintegration into society.

“Service Types” are uniquely assigned to a “Life Area” and are designed to help the user find a resource(s) that may offer assistance with a specific need(s).  For example, if the user decides to generate a “Life Area - Service Type Report”, selects a county and the Life Area Sobriety, the user will then have to choose from the following Service Types:  Substance Abuse Treatment, Sobriety Maintenance, Inpatient Treatment, Outpatient Treatment, or Assessment.

In order to choose the appropriate Service Type within a Life Area, please click here for descriptions of the “Life Areas” and their associated “Service Types”.

To take full advantage of the resources available in the County Resource Guide, the user must read the “Service Provider Description”.  This description includes details and descriptions of services offered by the providers, such as:  programs offered, any criteria that must be met, fees associated with services or programs, if they are a gender specific service provider, hours of operation, etc.  The “Service Provider Description” may be found in all but two (2) of the report options listed below which are the “County Specific Query/Short Version” and “Statewide Queries -Submit Printable Version”.
