Welcome Citizens

The Department of Public Safety serves as the state's chief protector and defender of the public.

Whether the subject is housing dangerous criminals, coordinating the state's homeland security efforts, helping hurricane victims recover from disaster, making the highways safe for the motoring public, defending the nation against foreign enemies, preventing juvenile delinquency or helping crime victims, DPS answers the call.

DPS has three major divisions: Adult Correction, Law Enforcement and Juvenile Justice.

Emergency Management, the North Carolina National Guard and the Governor's Crime Commission also are a part of DPS.
