Professional Standards, Policy and Planning

The newly formed Professional Standards, Policy and Planning Division’s primary role is to ensure that our employees fulfill our mission in an honest, respectful, fair and safe way—operating with the highest ethical standards. While promoting and ensuring legal compliance with state, federal and Departmental regulations and policies, as well as audit findings, our goal is to also identify training needs and best practices. With appropriate information in hand, the Division will promote robust training practices thoroughout the agency.

The Chief Deputy Secretary is the Chief Policy Advisor to the Secretary and the Division provides direction, analysis, planning and development of policies and initiatives for DPS. The following areas/units fall under this Division: Office of Special Investigations, Internal Audit, Policy and Strategic Planning as well as Private Protective Services.
