Correctional Officers

Correctional Officer at work

North Carolina's prison system has more than 11,000 custody officer jobs located across North Carolina. A correctional officer's daily task is the supervision of inmates, ensuring a safe, secure and orderly prison operation and an effective response to emergency situations. Correctional officers maintain public safety in the face of daily hostility, risks and difficulties.

Officers must complete an extensive four-week basic training academy including instruction in firearms, self-defense and medical training, as well as policy and understanding inmate behavior.
