Governor’s Clemency Office
The Governor's Clemency Office processes all requests for and inquiries about Executive Clemency. It oversees, coordinates, prepares reports and drafts Executive Clemency Orders for the Governor. This office also acts as the liaison with federal, state, and county officials and other parties interested in clemency.
Under N.C. General Statute § 143B-266(a), the Post Release Supervision and Parole Commission has the authority to assist the Governor in exercising his authority in granting reprieves, commutations, and pardons, and shall perform such other services as may be required by the Governor in exercising his powers of executive clemency.
