Not all of the programs listed receive funding and oversight by the Juvenile Justice Section of North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice. The programs that do receive funding and/or oversight by DPS are designated as such.

Service provided is a comprehensive clinical assessment for youths between the ages of 12 and 17 who are considered at risk for alcohol and drug use. The assessment process is to determine the level of risk for a substance use disorder and make appropriate referral which may include education-prevention, substance abuse treatment, and/or behavioral health interventions. Priority is for youth involved in the juvenile justice program.

Comprehensive Clinical Assessment
The treatment component of this program serves youth between the ages of twelve to seventeen who have received a substance use assessment and been recommended to complete a low intensity outpatient treatment program. Adolescents served will meet criteria for a substance use disorder according to DSM-IV. They will also have met ASAM program placement criteria for Level One treatment.

Substance Use Disorder Counseling
DPS Oversight
Adolescent Substance Abuse Counseling program consists of a full time Certified Substance Abuse Counselor that works directly with Juvenile Court Counselors and defendants. The counselor will attend all juvenile court hearings and provide assistance to possible alternate treatment options. Each offender meeting criteria will be given a G.A.I.N.S. assessment. Coordinator will meet with court counselors, D.S.S. and others to participate in coordination of care.

Substance Use Related Crisis Intervention
DPS Oversight
The Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment program is designed to provide substance abuse assessment and treatment services to youth (10-19) that are using substances and at-risk. The treatment group services will be provided for 2 hours a week for 15 weeks for 3 total sessions for the year with 10 weekly sessions of individual/family counseling (2 hours per session) to implement class materials in the home. Higher risk youth if requested can have up to 20 additional individual/family sessions.

Individual Counseling
Intensive clinical and functional face-to-face evaluation of a beneficiary's mental health, intellectual and developmental disability or substance use condition. The assessment results in the issuance of a Diagnostic Assessment report with a recommendation regarding whether the beneficiary meets target population criteria and includes a recommendation of Enhanced Benefit services that provides the basis for the development of the PCP.

Comprehensive Clinical Assessment
A service that is offered in the array of services where a client is evaluated by a licensed medical staff to see if the client needs medications to reduce or eliminate symptomology of a diagnosed mental health, substance use or developmental disability. All medications shall be based on a proper medical order and prescribed by a qualified medical professional. Clients will receive a prescription from medical staff to be filled by a pharmacy of the client’s choice.
