MEDIA ADVISORY: Back to School Safety Summit on Monday focuses on school safety initiatives 

A collaborative discussion on school safety initiatives will take place in Greensboro next week, sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.  

During the Back to School Safety Summit on Monday, Gov. Roy Cooper and representatives from the judiciary, legislature, education and law enforcement communities will receive updates on topics including school resource officer training; student resources for preventing school violence, including available mental health services; the State Emergency Response Application (SERA); the new SBI Behavioral Threat Analysis (BeTA) Unit; the Center for Safer Schools; and proposed legislation affecting school safety. Attendees will also learn about the importance of school justice partnerships and a new tool developed by the NC Administrative Office of the Courts that will help keep kids in school and out of court for routine misconduct.
