Highway Patrol Promotes 38 in June Ceremony One Captain, Three Lieutenants Among Those Promoted

Raleigh
Jun 28, 2016

On June27, 28 sworn members of the State Highway Patrol and 10 civilians took part in a promotion ceremony held at Hope Community Church in Raleigh.  The sworn members affirmed that they would support the Constitution of the United States, be faithful and bear true allegiance to the State of North Carolina and be alert and vigilant to enforce the criminal laws of the state.

Colonel William Grey, commander to the Patrol, said that like the best organizations in the world, the Highway Patrol is built on three important components:  the quality of people hired, the training and principled leadership.

“We on the Patrol are blessed with only the highest quality people,” Grey said.  “We strive to always be the best trained and we work diligently to maintain a legacy of principled, excellent leadership.”

Grey said it is no easy task to earn a promotion on the Highway Patrol. “It requires a lot of hard work, dedication and sacrifice.  We as leaders must care for our troopers.”

He urged the new supervisors, as a caring, principled leaders, to get to know the Patrol members.

Before Associate Justice Paul Newby of the North Carolina Supreme Court administered the Oath of Office, he thanked the promotees for their demonstrated leadership, for engaging in public service and putting aside their own personal welfare.

“There is no more important position than what you have,” Newby said.  “It is an indispensable role you play in the freedoms and liberties we enjoy.  You are the preeminent law enforcement agency in the state.”
