Special Instructions: Interested media organizations are encouraged to arrive at NCNG JFHQ by 5:30 p.m., in order to become oriented with the facility and to allow time for set up for camera coverage. Interviews will be granted at the conclusion of the ceremony; the unit will identify Soldiers from local area for interview subjects. Morrisville-based Aviation Unit set to Deploy overseas

Soldiers of the North Carolina National Guard’s Detachment 1, Company B, 638th Aviation Support Battalion will host a Mobilization Ceremony Friday, Jan 16 at the North Carolina National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters, located at 1636 Gold Star Drive.

The 638th will deploy as part of a battalion composed of National Guard units from the state of Washington, Michigan, Kentucky and South Carolina. The unit will be responsible for providing essential and routine maintenance of AH-64 Apache Attack helicopters in support of Army aviation missions overseas.

Members of the 638th deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2009-2010 but the detachment as a whole has not been mobilized to deploy in recent history. However, more than 50% of the unit’s soldiers have deployed before.
