NCNG Winston-Salem Based Transportation Unit is Welcomed Home

Raleigh

The North Carolina National Guard's 1452nd Heavy Equipment Transport Company hosted the unit's welcome home ceremony, Saturday, Sept. 29, at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Greensboro.

The Winston-Salem based unit returned home in July in time for Independence Day after being deployed for 12-months in support of Operation New Dawn. The company provided transport of military equipment and materiel out of Iraq and shipped back to the United States.

The 1452nd was one of the last units to leave Iraq in December 2011. While stationed abroad, the unit conducted transportation missions in and out of both Iraq and Afghanistan.

The unit, composed of nearly 200 members, hosted the welcome home ceremony in correlation with another event that helps returning veterans reintegrate by informing them of the many opportunities and benefits available to them and their families after a deployment.

The ceremony is how the NCNG formally welcomes its servicemembers back from deployments.
