Leave TypeWhat Happens at Separation?
Vacation Leave

Paid out for up to 240 hours (pro-rated for part-time employees). Anything over 240 hours is forfeited. 

Exception:

  1. Employees separating while on Workers' Compensation may be entitled to more than 240 hours.
Sick Leave

Not paid out. Will remain in the bucket for fives years from the separation date to be used if the employee returns to work for the state or retires within this five-year period.

Exceptions:

  1. Employees separating while on Workers' Compensation may be entitled to be paid out for up to 96 hours.
  2. Employees retiring will have their unused sick leave reported to the retirement system to be converted to months of service towards retirement.

Not paid out -- balance is removed.
Holiday LeaveIf employee separates before the actual holiday, the balance is removed. If employee separates after the actual holiday, the balance is rolled to holiday comp.
OT Comp TimeIf employee is subject to overtime (S-FLSAOT) the balance will be paid out. If employee is NOT subject to overtime (N-FLSAOT) the balance is not paid out.

Voluntary Shared LeaveBalance is pro-rated back to donors.
Liability LeaveBalance will be recouped from employees approved leave balance. If no approved leave, employee's final pay will be docked.
