Employees should contact BEST Shared Services for all issues relating to W-2 access, copies of paychecks or questions about pay, not the NCDPS Payroll office, since the Office of State Controller handles all state employees pay.

ORBIT Retirement
- All state employees have a pension that sits in an ORBIT Retirement Account.
- If a non-retiree employee would like to take the money that they have contributed over their years of service once they leave state government, they are able to request either a rollover into another retirement plan (such as an IRA) or request a cash-out.
- Both decisions can only be requested 60 days after the employee’s last day. You can request a rollover from ORBIT.
Insurance
- If your employment ends in the first half of the month (1st - 15th), coverage typically ends on the last day of that same month. If it ends in the second half of the month (16th - 31st) and the contribution for the next month is met, coverage may extend to the end of the following calendar month.
- Your Health Benefits Representative should have covered benefits payout during offboarding.
- If you are terminated, you have the right to continuation of coverage through COBRA. If you have questions about COBRA, contact Benefits, Health and Safety Deputy Director Becki Johnson.
Additional Types of Benefits
- If you are enrolled in any NC Flex benefits or other supplemental benefits, your coverage will end the last day of separation month.
- For any questions about NCDPS specific benefits, contact the Payroll Office.
