Resources Are Available to Help Victims of Crime

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Office of Victim Compensation Services provides financial assistance that helps survivors of violent crime and the family members of homicide victims. No amount of money can erase the trauma and grief that follows a violent crime, but this aid can support recovery. Our staff is here to help. All services are free and confidential.

Victim Compensation Program

Victims of violent crime can apply for financial assistance for eligible expenses such as medical care and lost wages. Families of homicide victims may submit funeral costs.

Rape Victim Assistance Program

State law instructs medical providers who perform the forensic medical examination to refrain from billing the victim. They must instead bill our program.

Crime Victim Compensation Commission

The members of the commission meet quarterly to review applications and determine eligibility for compensation.
