Governor McCrory's Hurricane Matthew Recovery Committee to Hold Next Regional Meeting in Edgecombe County

RALEIGH
Nov 16, 2016

Governor Pat McCrory’s Hurricane Matthew Recovery Committee will hold its next regional meeting on Friday, November 18, in Edgecombe County. Regional meetings will be held throughout North Carolina in the coming weeks in communities impacted by Hurricane Matthew. The committee will be taking comments from the public, as well as discussing steps to address relief fundraising efforts, community outreach, long-term plans for sustainable communities and developing recommendations to address needs that will not be met by existing federal relief programs.

“As the committee begins work on long-term recovery plans, these regional meetings provide important, local insight directly from the individuals and communities most impacted by Hurricane Matthew,” said Governor McCrory. “We appreciate the public’s participation in these important forums that will help identify existing needs and shape our state’s recovery to rebuild stronger than before.”

The next regional meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 18, at Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A portion of the meeting will be devoted to taking comments from the general public.

The first regional meeting was held yesterday in Robeson County. Among the items discussed was Governor McCrory's request for $1 billion in federal assistance to help North Carolina recover from Hurricane Matthew. The committee heard directly from the public to gain an understanding of needs in Robeson County and the surrounding region.

Governor McCrory announced the formation of the Hurricane Matthew Recovery Committee in late October, and convened the first meeting in Raleigh on November 1.

The governor is encouraging individuals and groups to help in the relief efforts by making a financial or other contribution. Monetary contributions to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund for Hurricane Matthew can be made by texting NCRECOVERS to 30306 or by visiting NCDisasterRelief.org. This is one of the best ways to help fund long-term recovery efforts.
