Four Vehicle Rear End Collision Results in Death of Wake Forest Woman

RALEIGH
Mar 23, 2016

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, the State Highway Patrol responded to a four vehicle rear end collision on US 1 near Circle Drive just south of Wake Forest.

According to investigators, Donald Wayne Caulder, 29, of Laurinburg, was traveling north on US 1 and operating a 2004 Freightliner dump truck towing a bobcat when he rear ended a 2004 Toyota Sienna Van being driven by Michelle Simone Barlow, 42, of Wake Forest. The impact resulted in her death. Investigators believe that Barlow was either stopped or slowing at the time of the collision. The force of the collision caused Mrs. Barlow's vehicle to be pushed into the rear of a 2011 Freightliner Tractor Trailer operated by Marvin Douglas Erb, 49, of Danville, Va. Mr. Erb's vehicle then rear ended a 2015 Honda passenger vehicle operated by Timothy Peter Ligowski, 49, of Wake Forest

Both Caulder and Erb were transported to Wake Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Ligowski was not injured.

Once the investigating is complete, investigators will be consulting with the Wake County District Attorney's office as to possible charges against Caulder in this matter.

All inquiries into this matter should be addressed to Public Information Officer, Lt. Jeff Gordon at (919) 306-7058 or Jeff.Gordon@ncdps.gov.
