Prison inmate escapes from custody in Forsyth County

The State Prison Emergency Response Team has captured escapee William Bailey. He was caught in Winston-Salem without incident around 4:00 p.m. with the assistance of local law enforcement. Bailey now faces escape charges.

Corrections and law enforcement officers are seeking inmate William Bailey #0792968 who has escaped from the custody of a correctional officer while at an emergency room in Winston-Salem. Bailey, 31, and the officer were on their way back just before 7 a.m. today to Forsyth Correctional, a minimum security facility, when Bailey escaped.

He was serving about a three year sentence for several counts of Possession with Intent to Sell a Controlled Substance and was scheduled for release in May 2017. Bailey is from Forsyth County.

Anyone who has seen Bailey or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement or Forsyth Correctional Center at 336-896-7041.
