Combined DPS Effort Aids in Capture of Escaped Inmate in Johnston County


A combined effort from Department of Public Safety personnel aided in the capture today of Wake Correctional Center inmate Larry J. Locklear (#0245809) at 7:30 a.m. along Interstate 95.

A DPS maintenance employee traveling to work saw Locklear walking along I-95 in Johnston County. The employee contacted the Benson Police Department, and the Benson PD then contacted the State Highway Patrol.

SHP Trooper H.C. Wiseman drove up on Locklear, who was walking along I-95 at mile marker 85 (near Four Oaks) wearing his prison clothing. Trooper Wiseman made the arrest without incident.

Locklear, 66, who was on a work assignment in Raleigh, was a minimum custody inmate. However, he faces escape charges and will be demoted from minimum custody. His prior projected release date was October 2021.
