The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Amanda Cobb as the new superintendent at Dan River Prison Work Farm in Blanch. Cobb replaces Timothy Willis, who retired.

Cobb has been the assistant superintendent of programs at Dan River for the past 10 years. She has been with the Department of Public Safety since 1992, spending most of her time in prison programming.

“I am confident in the abilities of Ms. Cobb. Her years of dedicated service and experience at Dan River have prepared her for this opportunity,” said Director of Prisons Kenneth Lassiter.

Cobb began her DPS career as the first female correctional officer at the former Durham Correctional Center in 1992. She started working in prison programs as a correctional program assistant in June 1996 in Durham and transferred to Orange Correctional Center in Hillsborough in 1999. Cobb was promoted to program supervisor back in Durham in 2002 before returning to Orange CC as the program director in 2003. Cobb was promoted to assistant superintendent of programs at Dan River in 2008.

The Rocky Mount native is a 1991 graduate of North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice. She began her law enforcement career as a 911 operator with the Rocky Mount Police Department in 1991.

Dan River Prison Work Farm currently houses approximately 625 male inmates in minimum custody.
