RALEIGH

RALEIGH: This morning, Governor Cooper joined state and Coast Guard officials to survey Hurricane Florence’s impact on a Coast Guard C-130J Aircraft.

The aircraft departed Raleigh-Durham International Airport, first travelled south over the NE Cape Fear River, Fayetteville, flooded portions of Interstate 95, Hope Mills, and Lumberton. While weather prevented travelling over Wilmington, the plane headed east over Chinquapin, Jacksonville and Onslow County, and then over the Crystal Coast in Carteret County. Finally, the plane turned back north to fly over New Bern and Craven County before returning to Raleigh.

Governor Cooper was invited by Vice Admiral Scott Buschman of the United States Coast Guard and was joined by NC Department of Transportation Secretary Jim Trogdon, North Carolina Department of Public Safety Secretary Eric Hooks, North Carolina National Guard Brigadier General Todd Hunt, and FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Albie Lewis.

Pool media coverage was provided by AP, the Raleigh News & Observer, and UNC-TV.
