Are you a renter who was forced out of your home by Hurricane Florence and initially was eligible for rental assistance from FEMA? Do you still need FEMA’s help? If you are still eligible, you need take only two steps to get the help you need:
• Complete a Declaration of Continuing Need for Rental Assistance. This is a legal document mailed to all rental grant recipients 15 days after the rental assistance grant is received. Survivors with additional housing needs must complete the Declaration.
• Return the form and all required documentation to FEMA by one of the following:
- Mail the completed form to FEMA, P.O. Box 10055, Hyattsville, MD 20782-8055;
- Fax the form to 800-827-8112; or
- Upload it to your FEMA Disaster Assistance Center account, available online at DisasterAssistance.gov. Click on “Check Status” to login or create an account.
If you can’t find your copy of the Declaration or you have questions about it, contact the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 (TTY) from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. To be eligible for continued rental assistance, you must meet the following conditions:
• You received a rental assistance grant from FEMA and used it as intended.
• You still can’t return to your home because it is unlivable, unusable or inaccessible because of Hurricane Florence.
• You do not have the money for housing without assistance.
• You are not receiving temporary housing help from any other source.
Hurricane survivors can receive up to 18 months of continued rental assistance, plus the security deposit, allowing them time to make progress toward finding long-term solutions
