Kevin King Named New Southern CI Administrator

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Kevin King as the new facility administrator at Southern Correctional Institution in Troy.

King, 61, had been the South Central Region Operations Manager for the 15 facilities in the regional office since July 2015. He was responsible for offender custody, facility safety and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures.

In his new position at Southern CI, King will have responsibility for all operations at the Montgomery County facility that is currently being converted from a female facility to a male facility. The conversion is expected to be completed this spring.

A veteran to state government, King began his career as a correctional officer and case manager at Southern CI in 1982. He also served as a program supervisor, recreation department manager and later became the program director at Southern CI as well as at Piedmont Correctional Institution.

In 1999, King was transferred to the former Brown Creek Correctional Institution in Anson County as the assistant superintendent for programs. In 2005, he was promoted to assistant superintendent for custody operations at both Southern CI and Lanesboro Correctional Institution.

King is a retired master sergeant in the United States Army Reserve. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in human service and a master’s degree in public administration from Webster University at Fort Bragg.
