UPDATE: NC Correctional Institution for Women Offender Back in Custody

<p>A North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW) minimum custody offender who left her work assignment on April 4, 2019, is back in custody after being captured this morning.&nbsp;</p>

A North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW) minimum custody offender who left her work assignment on April 4, 2019, is back in custody after being captured this morning. 

Offender Gayle Newcombe (#0685978) was captured in Wayne County by local law enforcement at approximately 1:45 a.m.  The State Capitol Police, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Fremont Police Department, DPS Prison Emergency Response Team (PERT) and various NCDPS staff all provided assistance in the capture of Offender Newcombe. 

Newcombe, 44, who was on a work assignment in Raleigh, was a minimum custody offender.  DPS will pursue internal/external charges as appropriate and she will be demoted from minimum custody. Her prior projected release date was April 18, 2020.
