On April 24 at approximately 10:23 a.m. at Scotland Correctional Institution, offender Laderrick Jones (#1413660) was pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest.
Jones, 24, was found unconscious in a cell at approximately 8:41 a.m. Jones was taken by EMS to an outside medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Scotland Sheriff’s Department and DPS are investigating the incident. DPS is cooperating with law enforcement and an autopsy will be performed on Jones to determine if there were any other factors involved in the death.
Jones was serving time for possession of a firearm by a felon and attempted robbery in Guilford County on Aug. 29, 2017. His projected release date was this Aug. 22.
