MEDIA ADVISORY: Anson Correctional Institution Tour

RALEIGH
Jul 26, 2019

WHAT:     Tour of Anson Correctional Institution

DATE:     Tuesday July 30

TIME:      10 a.m.-noon

WHERE:    Anson Correctional Institution, 552 Prison Camp Road, Polkton, NC 28135

ABOUT:     Lanesboro Correctional Institution in Anson County, formerly a close custody male facility, has been converted to a female facility for medium and close custody offenders and is renamed Anson Correctional Institution.

This move allows the Department of Public Safety to reduce the number of female offenders at N.C. Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh for safety reasons and to decrease stress on the facility’s infrastructure. Females offenders will be moved into the facility in the near future.

The move also allows for the accommodation of projected growth in the number of females sentenced to prison in North Carolina.

Media and stakeholders will be shown some of the changes the facility has undergone to convert Anson CI from a male to a female facility. Warden Miranda Richardson will lead the tour, and senior administrators with the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice will be available for comment.

Those attending the tour must arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. in order to clear security prior to the tour. All visitors must go through the facility security entrance, be subjected to a pat-frisk search by correctional officers, and must clear a metal detector. Visitors must present a valid photo ID in order to enter the prison, and cell phones are not permitted inside a state prison.

If you are planning to attend, please contact Communications Officer Jerry Higgins at jerry.higgins@ncdps.gov no later than Monday, July 29.
