Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) is now a division within the Department of Public Safety. Due to legislation signed by Gov. Roy Cooper on Aug. 27, ALE was re-established as a division within DPS effective Oct. 1. Secretary Erik A. Hooks announced Bryan House will be the interim director of ALE.

“I’m very pleased to welcome ALE back into the DPS family as the newest division of the department,” Secretary Hooks said. “They will continue to provide the same valuable service to our state they always have and will play a vital role in the department’s mission to ensure the safety of the people and communities of North Carolina.”

Interim Director House began his service to North Carolina as an ALE field agent in 1999. In the years since, House has served as a task force agent assigned to the FBI; ALE special agent in charge of both District III (Fayetteville) and Professional Standards; special agent in charge overseeing ALE Operations; and most recently has been serving as acting ALE branch head since January 2019. House holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from East Carolina University and attended the West Point Leadership Program at Methodist College in Fayetteville.
