Dan River Prison Work Farm Offender Escapes

A minimum custody offender at the Dan River Work Farm walked away from an off-site job training class in Roxboro at 3:05 p.m. today.

Steven Orlando Barrett Jr. (1287647) was last seen in the vicinity of the closed Person County Prison (which is used as a satellite classroom), where Barrett was a taking an electrical wiring class.

Barrett, 28, is a 5-foot-8 black male who weighs 154 pounds. He has a scar near his right eye and religious-themed tattoos on his chest and both arms.

He was admitted to prison on Dec. 7, 2017, to serve a four-year, four-month prison term for convictions in Guilford County for failing to register as a sex offender and taking indecent liberties with a child. He was released on post-release supervision in June 2018, but returned to prison this past May for violating the terms of his release. Before his escape, his projected release date was Dec. 10, 2020.
