UPDATE: Dan River Work Farm Offender Steven Orlando Barrett Jr. Captured and Back in Custody

A Dan River Work Farm offender who walked away from an off-site job training class today is back in custody after being captured. 

A joint effort with NCDPS, the Person County Sheriff’s Office, Roxboro City Police, State Highway Patrol and the Granville County Sheriff’s Office captured offender Steven Orlando Barrett Jr. (#1287647) in Roxboro at approximately 8 p.m.

Barrett, 28, a minimum custody offender walked away from an off-site job training class in Roxboro at 3:05 p.m. today.

Barrett will face charges for his escape. He was admitted to prison on Dec. 7, 2017, to serve a four-year, four-month prison term for convictions in Guilford County for failing to register as a sex offender and taking indecent liberties with a child. He was released on post-release supervision in June 2018, but returned to prison this past May for violating the terms of his release. Before his escape, his projected release date was Dec. 10, 2020.
