As Christmas approaches with inclement weather and extreme temperatures potentially impacting much of the nation, Governor Cooper and North Carolina Emergency Management are taking steps to track Santa’s progress and ensure he is able to safely visit and distribute presents in North Carolina.
“Our Division of Emergency Management is closely monitoring weather conditions, tracking Santa, and stands ready to help him reach children across North Carolina,” said Governor Roy Cooper.
NCEM is also working with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) to track Santa’s progress across North Carolina and will immediately send any resources his way should he need help or to refuel his reindeer with candy canes, cookies and hot chocolate.
“We are working hard to ensure Santa arrives safely in North Carolina,” said North Carolina Emergency Management Director Will Ray. “We have been in contact with our partners across the state to ensure needed supplies and resources are in place should Santa run into any problems. Our warehouses are also stocked with reindeer food and hot cocoa if needed.”
Santa’s elves have also sent word they are monitoring the weather closely on their NOAA radio and visited ReadyNC.gov to get him prepared for the inclement weather. This includes packing his sled with an emergency supply kit, a warm blanket, snacks for his journey and raingear among other needed items.
