Winter Weather Preparedness Week is Dec. 6 - 12 and Governor Roy Cooper is encouraging North Carolinians to plan and prepare now, before potentially dangerous winter weather arrives. 

“All North Carolinians should be prepared for inclement weather throughout the year,” Governor Cooper said. “This year has shown us just how unpredictable North Carolina’s weather can be.”

A juvenile committed through the juvenile justice system to the custody of the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice and housed at Mecklenburg Jail North Juvenile Detention Center has died from an apparent suicide.

The juvenile from Rockingham County, identified as Desmond W. was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte shortly after 3 p.m. today.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Stephen B. Waddell as the new warden of the Greene Correctional Institution in Greene County.Waddell, 48, had been the deputy warden at Central Prison in Raleigh since 2014.“Warden Waddell is a remarkable leader with decades of experience and a hands-on approach to managing a complex prison,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “He brings top-notch skills to his well-earned new position. He is an excellent addition to the team of outstanding professionals who run our prisons.”
Governor Roy Cooper announced today that applications are now being accepted for the N.C. Housing Opportunities and Prevention of Evictions (HOPE) Program, which will assist eligible low- and- moderate-income renters experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19. The new program seeks to promote housing stability during the ongoing pandemic by providing rent and utility assistance to prevent evictions and utility disconnections.

A Greensboro bar raided, the owner charged and over 100 liters of alcohol were seized after an ALE investigation.

The Greensboro venue, Ambiance Events Center, was previously an ABC-permitted business on Teague Street. But after a deadly shooting over Labor Day Weekend, the owner, Lawerence Chandler, was criminally charged and surrendered the business’ ABC permits to ALE. 

On Friday, September 11, 2020, ALE received information from Greensboro Police Department that the business appeared to be openly selling alcohol without permits at fully capacity. 
The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Ronnie “Lane” Huneycutt as warden at the Avery-Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine. Huneycutt, 50, had been the associate warden at Caldwell Correctional Center in Lenoir since 2015.

“Warden Huneycutt is a terrific addition to our team of wardens,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “He is a professional with more than 20 years of experience, in-depth knowledge of prison operations, and he has excellent organizational skills and leadership qualities.”
