FEMA Extends Registration Deadline for Hurricane Matthew Survivors

 Governor Roy Cooper today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved the state of North Carolina’s request for a 14-day extension for Hurricane Matthew survivors to apply for federal disaster assistance.  The new deadline is Monday, Jan. 23.

“Our top priority this weekend is keeping families safe during the winter storm. As soon as conditions improve, I urge hurricane survivors to register with FEMA to see what aid may be available to help them recover and move forward,” said Governor Cooper.

Governor Roy Cooper will join Public Safety Secretary Erik Hooks, Acting Transportation Secretary Mike Holder, Emergency Management Director Mike Sprayberry, State Highway Patrol Commander William Grey and NC National Guard Adjutant General Greg Lusk to provide an update on the response to the ongoing winter storm.

Governor Cooper Urges Patience Until Road Conditions Improve

Governor Roy Cooper urges residents to be safe and stay off the roads as most North Carolina counties continue to experience snow or sleet that began overnight.



“This storm is not over, so please stay off the roads and use extra caution if you absolutely must drive,” Governor Cooper urged North Carolinians.

JIC Formed to Provide Coordinated Information on Incoming Winter Storm

The State Emergency Response Team has activated the Joint Information Center in response to the winter storm, which is expected to start impacting North Carolina today.Located at Joint Force Headquarters at 1636 Gold Star Drive in Raleigh, the JIC will coordinate the release of information regarding state storm preparation and response. Individuals are on duty to gather the latest information and assist reporters interested in covering the state’s response to the storm. Additionally, officials will use this center to conduct media briefings as needed.

North Carolina Prepares for Statewide Winter Blast

Governor Roy Cooper has declared a State of Emergency ahead of a winter storm that is expected to cover most of North Carolina with four to seven inches of snow during the next 36 hours. 



Governor Cooper, who has cancelled inaugural activities scheduled for the weekend, said the State Emergency Response Team is preparing for the approaching winter storm and recommended that residents do the same.  

FEMA’s Community Education and Outreach at Home Improvement Stores Cancelled Saturday


Due to the predicted winter storm, FEMA’s Community Education and Outreach program at the following home improvement stores is canceled for Saturday, which also was the last day of the event. The event will not be rescheduled. The locations include:

FEMA/North Carolina Emergency Management Disaster Recovery Centers are closed Saturday

All three FEMA/North Carolina Emergency Management disaster recovery centers will be closed Saturday due to this weekend’s predicted winter storm.

The centers will reopen at 9 a.m. Monday, or as soon as conditions allow.

As New Year Begins, North Carolina Recovery Accelerating


In the three months since North Carolina was inundated by flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew, the state has made the move from response to recovery.

As of Jan. 3, federal agencies have provided more than $257 million in grants, loans and insurance payments to those who had losses resulting from flooding after Hurricane Matthew.

Hurricane Matthew survivors in North Carolina, don’t miss out on additional grants and loans that can help you recover – submit an application to the U.S. Small Business Administration today.

This notice applies to disaster survivors who registered for assistance with FEMA and were referred to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). You must complete a disaster loan application in order to keep your options open and to maintain eligibility for additional FEMA dollars. The registration deadline is near – Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.
