Correction and law enforcement officers bring a disturbance at Neuse Correctional Institution that lasted approximately four hours under control. One corrections staff member has been taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. One inmate received non-life threatening injuries and has been treated and released.
The disturbance started by a small group of inmates at about 4:30 p.m. The inmates set two separate fires that have been put out. The Prison Emergency Response Team (PERT), Goldsboro Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Johnston County Sheriff's Office, State Highway Patrol, probation officers and other local law enforcement have all responded to the incident. Currently, an investigation is underway as to who all was involved and why the inmates started the disturbance. The facility will remain on lockdown until further notice and PERT will remain onsite to maintain safety and security at the prison.
