Nov 10, 2015

At approximately 4:23 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, Cameron Pipkin, 23, of 6528 NC27, Coats, was traveling south on Red Hill Church Road near Tobacco Barn Lane just east of Lillington when he traveled off onto the right shoulder striking James McLeod, 14, of 2688 Ashe Avenue, Dunn. Mr. McLeod was walking south along the shoulder of the roadway when he was struck from behind. As a result of the collision, McLeod died at the scene.

Troopers charged Mr. Pipkin with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle and careless and reckless driving. He was transported to the Harnett County Detention Center where he was placed under a $1,000 secured bond. Troopers believe that Pipkin fell asleep prior to the collision. Speed was a factor in this case.
