Highway Patrol Reports Ten Fatalities during the July 4th Holiday Period

The Highway Patrol announces a preliminary number of 10 motorists who died on North Carolina highways during the July 4th holiday period.

The holiday weekend officially began at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 3, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 5. Last year, the Highway Patrol investigated seven  fatal collisions and 257 injury collisions during the July 4th holiday period.

During this year’s holiday period, troopers investigated 10 fatal collisions resulting in 10 deaths. The following is a breakdown of the location and highway of each fatality:

  • On NC 4 north from Panecea Rd (2.5 miles south of Littleton – Halifax County)
  • On I-840 (1.8 miles north of Greensboro – Guilford County)
  • On US 264 south from John Lewis Rd (2.7 miles northeast of Walstonburg – Greene County)
  • On Harrison Crossroads Loop Rd north from Zena Drive (2.6 miles north of Reidsville – Rockingham County)
  • On Pittman Grove Church Road near Monroe Rd (10 miles north of Raeford – Hoke County)
  • On US 321 north from Cloninger Rd (2.3 miles north of Dallas – Gaston County)
  • On NC 14 north from Quail Loop (3.9 miles north of Reidsville – Rockingham County)
  • On US 13 north from Eure Baptist Church Rd (9.9 miles west of Gatesville – Gates County)
  • On NC 53 west from New Savannah Rd (2.6 miles west of Burgaw – Pender County)
  • On NC 242 east of Hinson Rd (6 miles west of Newton Grove – Sampson County)
