Gaston County Engineers Return Home from Southwest Asia

RALEIGH

- North Carolina National Guard's 621st Survey and Design Team returns home from a year-long deployment to the Middle East, in support of Operation Spartan Shield. The unit is headquartered in Gastonia.

Their mission was designed to foster partnerships with Kuwaiti Land Forces and collaborate in training and engineer projects supporting all services.

The engineers provided survey capabilities and prepared drawings for various construction projects across Kuwait.

This deployment was the 621st Engineers' third after deploying in support to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and 2009. Members of the unit are no strangers to deployments as nearly 75 percent of the unit has been deployed more than twice.

The NCNG currently has more than 860 Army and Air Guardsmen deployed overseas supporting our nation.
