A roadway washout caused by Hurricane Matthew on I-95 south of Benson near the Johnston-Harnett County line will require a traffic shift on Thursday morning, Oct. 13.

N.C. Department of Transportation crews will install crossovers near mile marker 78 to shift traffic into a two-lane, two-way configuration on the northbound side of the interstate. This will require a short-term detour for I-95 southbound traffic through the town of Benson. The detour will be I-95 South to I-40 West to N.C. 242 toward Benson to U.S. 301 to Jonesboro Road and back to I-95.

Once the traffic shift on I-95 is installed, the work to repair the damaged roadway can begin. It will take at least three weeks to complete.
