Sep 1, 2015

The State Highway Patrol is investigating a collision where a subcontractor for the Department of Transportation was struck.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, a 2009 Dodge SUV, operated by Amber Nims, 29, of 103 Apple Court, Clayton, was traveling west on US 70 through a marked construction zone. At the time, construction workers were in the process of making bridge improvements on US 70 near Bear Farm Road when Ms. Nims’ vehicle ran off onto the right shoulder, striking the guardrail. She then overcorrected causing her vehicle to travel back across the roadway where she struck a construction worker.

The worker has been identified as Mark Licius, 47, of Moneta, Virginia. Mr. Licius was transported to Wake Medical Center with minor injuries. Mrs. Nims sustained no injuries in the collision and has been charged with Failure to Maintain Lane Control.
