Solar Eclipse Emergency Kit
The time to put any emergency kit together is before you need it.
Given the anticipated high traffic volumes Aug.18-21 from people traveling to experience the total solar eclipse, motorists could experience significant traffic impacts, especially after the eclipse ends and viewers head home.
If you are travelling that weekend, prepare in advance by taking with you a small kit of supplies.
Have a planned route, and make sure you share your travel plans, schedule and expected time of return with a trusted friend or family member.
A kit should include:
- Water and snacks
- Cell phone with charger
- Cash (in case ATMs don’t work)
- Paper map (in case cellular/GPS service is unavailable due to cell service overloads)
- First aid kit
- Anti-bacterial hand wipes or gel
- ISO-certified “eclipse glasses” for viewing eclipse
- Prescription medications and glasses
- Books, games to occupy time during delays
