The North Carolina Department of Public Safety and the Department of Health and Human Services today released a timeline of violence prevention initiatives that reflect the whole-of-government partnership launched last year with the formation of the state’s first Office of Violence
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety on Monday welcomed public health practitioner Siarra Scott as deputy director of the Office of Violence Prevention. Scott is the second hire in an office established by Governor Roy Cooper in 2023 to help the state reduce violence and firearm misuse.
The purpose of VOD is to bring together offenders and victims of a crime to provide an opportunity for them to engage in open and facilitated communication to address the harm caused, understand the impact of the offense and find ways to promote healing and resolution.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety has tapped Gerard Tate to lead the state’s Office of Violence Prevention. Tate will serve as the first director of an office established by Governor Roy Cooper in March to help the state reduce violence and firearm misuse.
