NCDPS is hosting FREE training sessions on April 11 for law enforcement and first responder agencies to learn best practices on interacting with the growing number of North Carolinians on the autism spectrum. The goal of Helping Enhance Autism Response Training or HEART is to further safe contacts among law enforcement, first responders and individuals with autism.

An increasing number of individuals are diagnosed with autism (e.g. 1 among 44 children nationally have autism). This training is important because of the social, communication and behavioral issues associated with the disability present unique challenges during an emergency or other stressful situation.
