Offender Robert Spicer (#0927311) died this morning at Nash Correctional Institution after an apparent suicide. He was found unresponsive in his cell Monday morning at approximately 12:36 a.m. Prison staff, medical staff and local paramedics responded and worked to resuscitate the inmate.

The deadline for registering with FEMA has passed, but that does not mean FEMA is leaving. FEMA continues working with North Carolina Emergency Management to help survivors and communities recover.

State and local law enforcement officials have apprehended a juvenile who on Dec. 15 failed to return to secure custody at the Chatham Youth Development Center, following a home visit in Lincoln County.

Laurinburg --On December 22 at approximately 2:15p.m. at Scotland Correctional Institution, multiple offenders were involved in an altercation in which nine inmates assaulted a fellow offender in their housing unit.

Craggy Correctional Center minimum custody inmate David W. Hinkle (#0716211), who was reported missing from the facility Wednesday night, was apprehended around 4:30 am. Hinkle was last seen near the facility at approximately 7 p.m.  

Asheville – State correctional and local law enforcement officers from Woodfin Police Department are seeking Craggy Correctional Center minimum custody inmate David W. Hinkle (#0716211), who was reported missing from the facility at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday evening.

North Carolinians who suffered damage from Hurricane Florence have until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 to register for federal disaster assistance.

North Carolina survivors of Hurricane Florence have until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018 to register for assistance from FEMA or apply for a low-interest loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

LINCOLNTON - A juvenile committed through the juvenile justice system to the custody of the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice and placed at the Chatham Youth Development Center has failed to return from a home leave with his family.

Seven additional counties are now eligible to participate in the temporary employment program that puts North Carolinians to work on recovery efforts in areas affected by Hurricane Florence, N.C. Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland announced today.
