Individuals and businesses in counties included in the North Carolina federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Florence may still register for FEMA assistance before the 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, deadline by:

•    Calling the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 (TTY) anytime from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice. Multilingual operators are available. You can update your contact information, ask questions about a letter from FEMA, get information about FEMA home inspections, or learn how to appeal a FEMA decision.
•    Going online to DisasterAssistance.gov or DisasterAssistance.gov in Spanish.
•    Downloading the FEMA mobile app or the FEMA mobile app in Spanish.
•    Downloading the ReadyNC app

After registering for disaster assistance, you may receive a determination letter by mail or email from FEMA. Read your determination letter carefully to understand your eligibility for federal assistance.
There are many reasons for an initial ineligibility determination. The most common reason is the need to provide FEMA with a copy of a letter verifying your insurance coverage before FEMA can process your grant application.

Or you may not have provided all required documents. Get in touch with FEMA as soon as possible to provide more information or missing documentation.

If you have questions about a U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loan, you may contact SBA’s Disaster Assistance Customer Service Center by calling 800-659-2955 or 800-877-8339 (TTY).  You may also email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov or visit SBA’s website at sba.gov/disaster. The deadline to apply for an SBA low-interest disaster loan also is Wednesday, Dec. 19.

If you have unmet disaster-related needs, you may call the statewide referral service at 2-1-1 or 888-892-1162 (TTY), or text Florence to 898211.
