WHAT: N.C. Prison Reform Advisory Board Meeting

DATE/TIME: Tuesday, Aug. 20, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

WHERE: Governor’s Crime Commission, Room 100, 1201 Front St., Raleigh

ABOUT: Members of the Prison Reform Advisory Board – established by the Department of Public Safety to provide ongoing expert advice on best practices related to prison safety and security -- will hear reports on Tuesday from several prison reform workgroups – Improving Training for New and Veteran Employees, Improving Internal and External Communications, and Reducing Contraband. There will also be discussions regarding development of career pathways for prison employees. During its afternoon work session, the Board members will work toward drafting recommendations to present to DPS Secretary Erik A. Hooks in October.

The Board predominantly consists of experts in the field of corrections, appointed by Hooks. The Board examines various topics including operations, training, staffing, technology, facility design and inmate work and program assignments.
