FEMA grants Governor Cooper’s request for federal disaster Public Assistance for more counties

Governor Cooper announced today that FEMA has approved his request to add 12 more counties to those eligible to receive reimbursements for Hurricane Dorian response and recovery expenses.

“This approval means more towns and counties will be able to use federal funds to cover their storm response and clean-up costs so Dorian will not put their local budgets in a bind,” said Governor Cooper.   

Governor signs state disaster declaration for Dorian affected counties

Today Governor Roy Cooper signed a state disaster declaration for counties that suffered damages from Hurricane Dorian, making additional assistance available to residents there. “Today’s state disaster declaration will help North Carolinians recovering from Hurricane Dorian get vital assistance necessary to recover,” said Governor Cooper.

Hurricane Dorian Proof of Loss Deadline Approaches for Policyholders

National Flood Insurance Program policyholders in North Carolina who had Hurricane Dorian damage have 60 days from their date of loss to file a Proof of Loss. 

FEMA remains committed to ensure policyholders receive every dollar their NFIP policy entitles them.

“Policyholders should do everything they can to submit any remaining requests for payment as soon as possible,” said NFIP chief executive David Maurstad. “Policyholders should continue to work with their insurers and the NFIP will pay all proved and agreed-to claims.”

Today the U.S. Small Business Administration granted Governor Cooper’s request for a disaster declaration for counties that suffered damages from Hurricane Dorian, making additional assistance available to residents there.

Governor Cooper requests Small Business Administration disaster declaration

Governor Roy Cooper sent a letter today to the U.S. Small Business Administration requesting that the SBA grant a disaster declaration for North Carolina counties that were affected by Hurricane Dorian. This request is the first step in establishing a state relief program after FEMA denied North Carolina’s request for Individual Assistance for Carteret, Dare, Hyde and New Hanover Counties on October 8th. 

Governor Cooper Calls On Senators To Help Get Individual Assistance for North Carolinians Impacted by Hurricane Dorian

Governor Roy Cooper urged Senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr to implore the federal government to approve Individual Assistance for those affected by Hurricane Dorian. Following Hurricane Dorian’s impacts on September 5th and 6th, Gov. Cooper requested Individual Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on September 21st, which has not yet been approved by the federal government. 

SBA Disaster Assistance Available to North Carolina Private NonProfit Organizations Affected by Hurricane Dorian

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced today that certain Private NonProfit organizations (PNP)s in North Carolina that do not provide critical services of a governmental nature may be eligible to apply for low-interest rate disaster loans.  These loans are available following a Presidential disaster declaration for Public Assistance resulting from damages caused by Hurricane Dorian from Sept. 1 – 9, 2019.

Governor Cooper Visits Ocracoke Island to Survey Hurricane Recovery Efforts

On Monday, Governor Roy Cooper and members of his cabinet visited Ocracoke Island to survey recovery efforts following Hurricane Dorian’s landfall on September 6, 2019.

“Ocracoke hurricane survivors have been through a lot, and they’re working hard to recover. I am pushing for federal assistance to help get resources where they are needed in addition to state resources we’re already providing,” said Gov. Cooper.
