Governor Cooper Issues Order to Help North Carolina Farmers Harvest Crops Ahead of Hurricane Dorian

Governor Roy Cooper today issued an order to help North Carolina farmers harvest and transport crops quickly in preparation for any future impacts from Hurricane Dorian.

The State of Emergency declaration waives certain transportation restrictions to help farmers and support relief efforts in advance of the storm, which is expected to strike the southeast in the next few days. Gov. Cooper issued the order to help farmers statewide after conferring with North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler.

Governor Cooper urges people to be prepared, listen to local officials

As local governments begin to issue evacuation orders, Governor Roy Cooper today advised people to pay attention to local evacuation instructions related to Hurricane Dorian and reminded others that time to get ready for the storm is running out. 

“I urge you to closely follow the forecast and listen to your local officials,” said Governor Cooper. “If they order an evacuation please follow their instructions.”

Governor Cooper urged North Carolinians today to pay close attention to Hurricane Dorian, and make sure they are ready for its possible impacts expected by the middle of the week. 

“North Carolina has endured flooding from two strong hurricanes in less than three years,” said Governor Cooper. “Now is the time to prepare for Dorian. To the people of North Carolina, particularly those still recovering in the eastern part of our state, we are working hard to prepare and we are with you.”

By Executive Order today, Governor Roy Cooper lifted restrictions on transportation to ensure critical needs like fuel, medicine and water can get to those affected by Hurricane Dorian if it hits North Carolina. The Order also lifts restrictions on equipment needed to repair utilities and remove debris so those tools are easier to mobilize after the storm.
