Esta semana, del 20 al 26 de septiembre, 2021, la Patrulla Estatal de Carreteras de Carolina del Norte estará participando en el operativo “Operation Clear Track” (vías ferroviarias despejadas). Esta iniciativa de seguridad es parte de la Semana de Seguridad Ferroviaria llevándose a cabo como un esfuerzo para reducir muertes y lesiones prevenibles cerca de trenes y vías ferroviarias.Durante la semana de esta iniciativa, los patrulleros se posicionan en los cruces ferroviarios para distribuir tarjetas de seguridad y hacer cumplir las leyes de cruces y de entradas.

This Father’s Day, Master Trooper Jason Ratliff and Master Trooper (Ret.) John King Sr. have something extra special to celebrate. On April 19, they each had a son graduate in the 162nd Basic Patrol School—like father, like son. Trooper Garrett Ratliff remembered attending his father’s Basic Patrol School graduation when he was about 9 years old. Now it’s all come full circle. Jason initially didn’t want his children to be in law enforcement because of the dangers involved, but on Garrett’s graduation day, he beamed with pride. 

From the mountains to the sea, law enforcement officers from across North Carolina gathered today at a memorial service for the 30 uniformed men and women who died in the line of duty over the past year.

When Trooper Colby Hall raised his hand and took his oath on Nov. 19, 2021, during the 154th Basic Highway Patrol School graduation, he had officially accomplished a goal he had made early in life.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is participating in “Operation Clear Track” this week (Sept. 20-26). The safety initiative is part of Rail Safety Week that is held in an effort to reduce preventable deaths and injuries near trains and train tracks.During the initiative, troopers are positioned at rail crossings to distribute safety cards and enforce grade crossings and trespassing laws.

On Tuesday, August 17, Tropical Strom Fred hit the western side of North Carolina, causing severe flash flooding. In response, Governor Roy Cooper signed Executive Order 227, which waives the size and weight requirements for vehicles carrying emergency relief supplies or services to assist with the restoration of utility services, debris removal and emergency relief efforts. 

Proper use of car safety seats helps protect children while in a vehicle. When used correctly, car seats can reduce the risk of death in a collision by as much as 71% (safekids.org). There are a lot of different options on the market and it can get overwhelming, but the good news is that several resources are available to help parents while their child is in a car seat.

Spring is an active time for farmers and members of our state’s agricultural industry. Did you know that in North Carolina it is legal for farm equipment to travel on most public roads? The exception to this includes interstates and controlled access roadways.

“Our farmers are out working hard right now as they are one of North Carolina’s most important economic engines,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “Please be careful when you see farm trucks and equipment out on the road so they can do their jobs while everyone stays safe.”
