Governor Roy Cooper today signed a State Disaster Declaration for the Town of Wentworth in Rockingham County, which was struck by a tornado on May 6.

La primera semana de mayo está programada para ser la Semana de Preparación por Huracanes, la cual busca fomentar la preparación e información educativa sobre los peligros que los huracanes representan y también recordar a todos que deben prepararse para afrontar condiciones tropicales del tiempo.

Search and rescue teams from across North Carolina will gather this weekend in Rockingham to train at the RockSAR 2022 statewide exercise. Ground search and rescue, technical rescue, water rescue and K-9 search teams have been invited to participate.

North Carolina Department of Public Safety has been awarded a $5.4 million grant from FEMA to protect the City of Hickory’s Northeast Wastewater Treatment facility from future disasters.

The first week in May, Hurricane Preparedness Week, encourages preparedness and education about the dangers of hurricanes and remind everyone to be ready for tropical weather. Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30.

Due to the increased populations of mosquitoes caused by flooding from Hurricane Florence, Governor Roy Cooper today ordered $4 million to fund mosquito control efforts in counties currently under a major disaster declaration.



Those counties include: Bladen, Beaufort, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Wayne, and Wilson.
