Corrections and law enforcement officers are seeking inmate Jason Strickland, who escaped this morning by leaving a Department of Transportation highway crew working on Old Salisbury Rd. in Wilkes County.

Escaped inmate Stephen Singleton was captured this evening by New Hanover County sheriff's deputies. Singleton was driving a stolen vehicle and was injured when it crashed.

Corrections and law enforcement officers are seeking inmate Stephen Singleton who escaped from New Hanover Correctional Center this morning.  Singleton was discovered missing after a 5 a.m. count and is believed to have scaled a fence to leave the prison.

The State Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver and/or vehicle that fatally struck and killed a 41-year old Spring Lake man as he walked along a Harnett County Road during the early morning hours of Monday, July 4.
