Thousands of people across North Carolina have gotten calls from individuals claiming to be Internal Revenue Service employees, according to the State Bureau of Investigation. The callers claim someone at the residence owes money to the IRS for unpaid taxes.

The North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Branch charged a Thomasville corporation and seven of its employees with operating an illegal gaming enterprise.

Wake County Troopers responded to a fatal collision involving a pick-up truck and bicyclist on Mount Pleasant Road just east of Fuquay Varina early Tuesday evening.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Wed., Nov. 4, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a head-on collision on Forestville Road just north of Old Milburnie Road in Wake County.

A second Siler City man was arrested today for his role in the homicide of Esau Abraham Brenes. Francisco Rivas Galves-Huezo, of Siler City was previously charged for his role in the homicide.

 The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Hubert Corpening as the new administrator at Marion Correctional Institution. Corpening is a 27-year corrections employee who has worked at Marion CI since it opened in 1995.

Governor Pat McCrory has asked for a federal disaster declaration for eight counties to help communities repair damaged property and recoup some of the costs related to responding to recent flooding and Hurricane Joaquin.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, the Wake County Sheriff’s Department received a call that a pedestrian had been struck near the address of 5818 Poole Road near Rock Drive.

Governor Pat McCrory announced today the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has received a $679,000 grant award to expand a specialty mental health probation pilot program to Brunswick, McDowell, Guilford, Mecklenburg, Orange and Durham counties. The grant comes from the U.S.

Pazuzu Algarad, 36, a pre-trial inmate facing murder charges in Forsyth County, was found unresponsive in his Central Prison cell during a regular count shortly after 3 a.m. today.

Highway Patrol ended its Operation Stop Arm campaign on Friday, Oct. 23. The campaign which began on Monday, Oct. 19 was focused on promoting traffic safety around North Carolina schools, school buses and school bus stops.

Inmates at several state prisons across North Carolina raised approximately 16,250 pounds of fresh produce and donated it to local food banks, community pantries and social service organizations this year as part of the Combating Hunger project launched last spring.
