The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Stephen Jacobs as the new warden of Tabor Correctional Institution in Tabor City.

Jacobs, 53, had been the warden at Lumberton Correctional Institution in Lumberton since 2020.

The State of North Carolina and FEMA have approved $3,385,724 to help Dare County renourish the Buxton Beach shoreline, where Hurricane Dorian’s storms and waves in 2019 caused beach and dune erosion.

Basden had been the associate warden of custody at the prison since 2017.

Offender Jon F. Coffey (#0703029) died April 22, 2021 at Pamlico Correctional Institution after an apparent suicide.

He was found unresponsive in a cell at 12:59 p.m.

Secretary Erik A. Hooks has announced the promotion of Jane Ammons Gilchrist to Chief of Staff for the department. In this position, Chief Gilchrist will be taking on an expanded role in helping Secretary Hooks lead the department.
